Shinoh Nam

Shinoh Nam’s work combines elements of an imaginary architecture that exists only in the architectural existence(created by the artist) with fragments of a symbolic building that exist in real life or fragments of an architectural structure that is symbolic in modern architecture. In this way, it makes the viewer forget the powerful essence expressed by the generally completed buildings. They encounter the sense of seeing the relics which are transported from the moment of ruins and are able to cut, combine, and leave the elements of the building purely through their individual will. Due to the invasion into the completed architecture which defines the primary meaning of the building and a series of incidents caused by it, the definitions of the buildings become overlap, ambiguous, and collapse. Thus the meaning of the norm is dismantled. As a result, the definition of the building becomes meaningless and leads viewers to define the building themselves. With this encountering, viewers can make their invisible desires visible and feel. It stimulates the philosophical aspect inherent in each individual concerning the ideal and abstract existence, their fragility, pure desire, and desire in general concepts. Nam induces the viewers to elicit new perceptions by utilizing the series of relationships, especially through the concept of a metaphor.
